Description

Atroa appears as a fresh-faced blond woman, often with a hawk perched on his shoulders. With his sling of Windstorm, he can attack the most distant enemy, and with Ready's Dawn, his glass amulet, he is able to melt all the visible ice.

Relationships

Atroa is the daughter of Procan and Merikka's cousin. As one of Velaeri, she is Velnius's sister, Telchur, Sotillion, and Wenta. He once loved the god Kurell, but he refused to chase his brother Zilchus, his sister Sotillion. She is currently romantically associated with Fharlanghn. He was allied with Ehlonna, Phaulkon, Velnius, and his sisters, but opposed to his brother, Telchur. For most other gods, Atroa did not care.

Dogma

As Goddess of Spring, Atroa is a refreshing breath that wakes the world from sleep. He gave the world a new love and a new life, renewed old friendships, and picked the hearts of lovers, travelers, and poets. Sad Maiden promotes spring as a time to bury old hostilities, fix old things, and eliminate the old bias. Spring, like dawn, signifies great things; Atroa urged his followers to see the future with an open mind and heart to enjoy them fully. They believe in taking responsibility for what they have started, and keeping what they have planted. This is a great sin in the Atroa faith to allow plants to die of neglect, or to let a child starve. They believe in everyone's basic goodness. Celibacy is favored by Atroa, which encourages marriage and pregnancy. The pregnant monk Atroa is considered the most sacred of them all.

Worshippers

Atroa is usually worshiped with his brothers as part of Velaeri, the god of the Oeridian farm. He is respected by peasants and others who depend on the gift of the land.

There are two sects of the Atroan church: Planterings and the Bearers. Planterings concentrates on the seasonal aspect of Atroa, working hard on the farm, honoring the spring and preparing for the winter. The Bearers concentrate on aspects of renewal, worshiping families and urging the proliferation of the human race. They manage orphanages, and usually women.

Clergy

Imam Atroa tends to be optimistic and willing to try to experience new things. They often wander, rarely spending more than a year in the same place. Naturally, they are very forgiving and count every enemy to change friends with pride. They love to re-visit old friends and lovers almost as much as traveling to new places. They are most busy in the spring, when they help plant crops. Many are midwives. Many Atroan priests love to explore strange places, especially if it has been a long time since their last trip. Sling is their favorite weapon. Atroa's special priest is known as Green Daughters or Green Sons.

Atroa priests usually wear simple farmer clothes with broad green-brimmed hats. Often they wear green robes with red dots, and they usually wear leather gloves for agricultural work. On official occasions they wore green robes, knees with short sleeves and veils.

Shrine

Places of worship to Atroa are often dedicated to Velaeri as a whole. This location is found throughout the Oeridian region, including Ahlissa, Bone March, Gran March, Highfolk, Ratik, Sunndi, County of Urnst, and Veluna. Although Velaeri worship is forbidden in Pale Theocracy, they are secretly respected by many peasants and rural people.

The temples for Atroa are typically typically small chapels or shrines, made of wood and with little ornaments. They have many windows, which are always facing east. The carved wooden images of Atroa sometimes stood in front of the altar, and the clock bell rang.

The largest Atroan Temple is the Children's Shrine in Gradsul, in Keoland, a large wooden building that competes with the Osprem Foaming Tower in the same town for followers. Both churches share many followers, as most seafarers want the blessings of both goddesses. The Temple of the Children is one of the finest orphanages in Keoland.

The Trade Wind Chapel at High Mardreth in the County of Urnst is the second largest Atroa temple. It has grown since the Greyhawk War, as many shipments have begun passing Nyrond to the Urnst State.

Ritual

Prayer is recited in the morning. The act of working in the fields is counted as the prayer itself, though devout worshipers of Atroa often recite the phrase "Blessed be the land" repeatedly while doing so. Atroa priests gave blessings at birth and marriage occasions, and also preached at the cemetery with messages of hope.

Holy Days

Sunday Growfest is very important for Atroa and his people, when pastors join their flock in planting, followed by songs, prayers, food, and drinking at night. The holiest day is the Spring Celebration, at Growfest 4, set aside as a day of rest, prayer, and reflection. His followers left offerings to the goddess in the Glory of the Great Month (Readying 11th), to ask him to arrive early and ask his brother Telchur to go in peace.
