Life and art

David Kracov was born in 1968 in Boston, Massachusetts. At the age of 12, after winning first place in an art competition, he became one of the youngest artists ever to be exhibited at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. After receiving a degree from the Rhode Island Design School, Kracov moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in animation. One of his most famous quotes describes his relationship to art, " When my eyes are closed, I think and when my eyes are open, I create."

Los Angeles Years - Animation

David started as an animator in Cool 'World Ralph Bakshi, where he quickly became the Head of Special Effects. After the production ended, David went on to work with Disney Animation, Don Bluth Animation, Rich Animation, as well as other well-known studios, working on features like Troll at Central Park, The Swan Princess, and more. During this time, David also worked for the famous Special Effects studio, creating visual effects for feature feature films.

Sculpting - Clay

During his time as an animator, having no formal training in sculpture, David began experimenting with various types of clay, and began sculpting characters from the films he had drawn. He was approached by Warner Bros. Studios, and was assigned to create a limited edition chess set, entitled "Looney Trails," for Warner Bros Studio Gallery. All 50 sets, which took more than seven months to complete, sold out within two days of being released. After his initial success, Kracov continues to work with Warner Bros studio, becoming an exclusive licensed sculptor for all Warner Bros. characters. During that time David was contacted by Disney Studios to create individual character statues as well as chess sets for their shops, galleries, and amusement parks. The 3D Serial Shadowboxes are influenced by plunging into scenes and cartoon characters of clay.

Steel and Metal

David began experimenting with steel, making unique steel wall sculptures, all hand pieces from one sheet of steel and painted using a vibrant color palette. In the process of exploring, Kracov discovers and develops different techniques, including metal laser cutting techniques, which he now master and use proficiently throughout his artwork. David also experimented with paper cuts, which retraced the ancient far-eastern technique known to be very smooth and accurate.

In recognition of Pavel Friedmann's poem "The Butterfly," David included at least one butterfly in most of the statues he created. Kracov was commissioned by The Coca-Cola Company to create a butterfly-themed wall statue entitled "Open Happiness", for its 125th anniversary. He now has 2 statues on display at the Coca Cola museum in Atlanta and at the entrance to Coca Cola's headquarters in France.

Attend

Over the years Kracov has gained tremendous success and followers; his artwork is present in exclusive galleries around the world, particularly in Asia, Europe and North America, and is displayed in many central locations and luxury hotels, such as Plaza Athenee in Paris. Kracov is also very popular among famous personal art collectors worldwide. His works can be found in the personal collections of famous entrepreneurs as well as Hollywood entertainers such as Steven Spielberg, Matt Damon, Liev Schreiber, Whoopi Goldberg, and Michael Douglas who gave the Book of Life sculpture to his father Kirk Douglas as a gift. Over the years and to this day David's work is being exclusively published and exhibited by Cathia Klimovsky in the Eden Fine Art galleries around the world.
