Drag racing boat is a drag racing form that occurs in water rather than on land. Like ground drag racing, competitors race their vehicles for the lowest lowest time (low ET) during a straight racing course with a specified length. There are three standard length drag race courses, 660 feet (1/8 mile), 1,320 feet (1/4 mile), and the most common length, used in professional drag boat races, 1,000 feet (3/16 miles plus 10 feet). Unlike drag racing on land, which starts from the beginning of the stand, the drag boat race starts from the beginning of the short to the point that can not be passed until the green light "starts" on. There are many categories of professional classes and sportsmen based on various engine configurations, fuel type, hull design and propulsion type. The main category of drag boat racing is the Top Fuel Hydroplane class that is equivalent to water for Top Fuel Dragsters that can cover a quarter of a mile of liquid in less than three seconds with a top speed of around 270 mph (400 km/h). The biggest event on the drag boat calendar is LODBRS World Finals which takes place at Firebird Raceway Phoenix, Arizona.
