The electric race rules are very different from traditional drag races. General safety rules apply but additional rules apply depending on the voltage, battery type, motor number and configuration. The National Electric Drag Racing Association (NEDRA) oversees the majority of electric drag racing events in North America.

Electric motors produce 100% of torque at zero RPM and this makes them faster than the line compared to piston-engined vehicles with the same power. Because Battery Technology has improved greatly during the 1980s to the present, the performance gap between piston-engined & amp; electric-motor vehicles have narrowed. Battery pack weights can impact on overall performance improvement 1/4 times milem.

Electric Drag Racing World Records

Sepeda Motor, 1/8 mil

In the drag motorcycle class, the 48 volts NEDRA division, the current world record is 7,800 seconds over 1/8 mile, set on June 16, 2010 by Silver Giant II in Mosten, Denmark. The speed of the finish line is 80.20 mph (129 km/h). The lithium-ion polymer battery provides 48 volts and 600 amperes to each of the four 24 volt motors for a combined power of around 100kW, though less than half the power reaches the rear wheels, as most are lost as heat in the motor. Dry ice is used to cool the motor up to 5 Â ° C between races. It has two gears, and the shift occurs automatically at 65 km/h (40 mph) using CO 2 -pneumatics. It was built and spurred by Danish team True Cousins, who holds the record for 24 volts division at 8.677 seconds.

Motorcycles, 1/4 mile

The fastest current electric vehicle in the world as of December 2017 is "Rocket Bike", a motorcycle owned by Shawn Lawless and tested by Larry "Spiderman" McBride, with 6.940 seconds ET time at a quarter mile at 201.37 MPH set at Virginia Motorsports Park in May 2012. In addition to being the first rider to break 200 MPH in a quarter mile, Mr. McBride was also the first to break into six-second confinement with an electric vehicle. Larry "Spiderman" McBride was also the first to break the 5-second bracket on a fuel-powered motorcycle. This motor currently holds the NEDRA World Record in the DC3/MC class at the National Electric Drag Racing Association.

The Battery Pack is designed and built by Derek Barger and Rae Ciciora at High Tech Systems LLC in Colorado. The BMS Original Battery Management System was designed by Steve Ciciora and Derek Barger. The motor was assembled in Orange County Choppers for a TV show.

Dragster, 1/4 mile

The current record is held by Don Garlits. The dragster QF200 broke the previous record of the "Current Eliminator" on August 10, 2014 with 7.274 seconds ET at 185.60 mph in 1/4 mil DR/A3 class set at Bradenton Motorsport Park in August 2014. Powered by a 1.5 MegaWatt Battery built by Derek Barger of High Tech Systems LLC.

The previous record for the electric rail dragster is the "Eliminator Current" owned and driven by Dennis Berube of Phoenix, Arizona. Currently holding the NEDRA World Record in DR/A3 class at 7.956 seconds ET at quarter mile at 159.85 MPH. The record was set at the Southwestern International Raceway in Tucson Arizona on December 30, 2007.

Car, 1/4 mile

The fastest electric doorlammer car today is the "Black Current III" owned by Sam and Olly Young from the UK. Currently holding NEDRA World Record in class XS/A2 at 9.64 seconds ET at 133.21 MPH. The record was set at Santa Pod Raceway in Northamptonshire, England on July 23, 2011.

The fastest electric current (doorlammer) takes, "Lemon Juice" is owned and driven by Shawn Lawless of Ohio. Currently holding the NEDRA World Record in MC/A2 class at 9.957 seconds ET at 127.38 MPH.
