src: media.comicbook.com

Savage Dragon is an American comic book series created by Erik Larsen, published by Comic Drawings and taking place in Image Universe. This comic shows the advent of a superhero police officer named Dragon. The character first appeared as a Dragon in Graphic Fantasy # 1 (June 1982) and first appeared as "Savage Dragon" in Megaton # 3 (February 1986).

The dragon is a large, finned, green-skinned humanoid whose strength includes superpowers and advanced healing factors. He is also an amnesia: his earliest memories are waking up in a burning field in Chicago, Illinois. So, for most of the series, the origin of strength and appearance is a mystery to the reader. At the start of the series, he became a police officer and battles the mutant criminal "superfreaks" that terrorized Chicago.

Savage Dragon is one of only two Comic Image titles that debuted during the 1992 corporate launch which continues to be published until the end of the 2010s, and the only one of the two to run most of it, has been written and drawn almost entirely by its creator (with the exception of one problem), to which Larsen has been praised. Savage Dragon is the oldest full-colored American comic book featuring a single artist/writer. The character was also adapted into an animated series, which lasted for two seasons (26 episodes) on the USA Network starting in 1995.

Savage Dragon is listed by the Wizard as the 116th greatest comic book character of all time. IGN also listed Savage Dragon as the 95th-oldest comic book hero of all time who declared that he had a great comic book hero ornament.

Publishing history

Like many of Erik Larsen's characters, Savage Dragon was created by Larsen when he was a boy in elementary school. In his youth, Larsen drew a dragon in his comic book. The original dragon, inspired by elements of Captain Marvel, Batman, Speed Racer and then The Incredible Hulk, is very different from the modern incarnation. After launching the Savage Dragon in a professionally published comic book, Larsen returned to the original and re-created the design into characters of William Jonson, a dragon police officer of the Dragon, and Flash Mercury, "Spectacular Dragon".

Later, a redesigned redesigned Savage Dragon is featured in two editions of Graphic Fantasy , a self-published title with a small print, published by Larsen and two friends. In this incarnation, Dragon is a widower and a retired member of a government-sponsored superhero team. Furthermore, the dragon makes another appearance in the third edition of Gary Carlson's anthology Megaton on the strip of Vanguard , which has drawn Larsen. In this performance, the Dragon's character remains essentially the same as that of Graphic Fantasy , with some modified details (such as the inclusion of his wife, who had died in his previous incarnation). The Graphic Fantasy and Megaton issues containing Dragon have been reprinted in high quality editions.

In 1992, when Larsen left Marvel to co-founded Image Comics, he reworked the characters for a new publishing effort. This time, the Dragon is a massive, muscular green amnesiak, who joins the Chicago police department after being found in a burning field. Originally debuting in a three-edition mini-series, the comic Savage Dragon met quite successfully to justify the monthly series, launched in 1993. To this day, Larsen continues to write and illustrate the series entirely. by itself, and has maintained a fairly consistent monthly schedule (except for occasional deviations) compared to other original Comic Image titles. Larsen sometimes produces additional mini-series, and sometimes allows other creators to produce stories that feature dragons or other characters from the series.

According to Larsen, the series is intended for "older Marvel readers who are ready to throw towels at comics altogether. This is the missing link between Marvel and Vertigo.More mature than Marvel, less pretentious than Vertigo.Comic types [he wants] to read The book really pampered. "

Fictional character biography

For the initial mini series and 38 first editions of the ongoing series, Dragon is a full officer of the Chicago Police Department, and partnered with officer Alex Wilde. Dragon and Wilde will have regular sexual relationships. He received the name "Dragon" (due to the fins and green skin) of Nurse Ann Stevens, who would later become a supporting character in Mighty Man.

Mini-series

The dragon was found in a field burned by Lieutenant Frank Darling. At the time, Chicago was being terrorized by the evil "superfreaks" (Larsen's collective term for superpowered characters), a criminal gang called the Vicious Circle, led by a mysterious Overlord. Realizing that the Super Dragon powers would be a huge boon for the police in fighting the Vicious Circle, Darling asked the Dragon to join the police. At first, the Dragon refused and took a job at Darling's cousin's warehouse. After a number of serious incidents, including the murder of Mighty Man superhero and SuperPatriot brutal persecution, Darling took drastic action. He paid a member of the Vicious Circle to threaten his cousin in the hope that it would encourage the Dragon to reconsider his offer. Though this achieves the desired outcome of Darling, the two criminals, Skullface and Hardware, kill Darling's cousin and detonate a bomb in his warehouse. The dragon joins the police, but Darling is now under the Vicious Circle's thumb, causing him to steer the Dragon away from the Vicious Circle activity.

Later, Dragon gets boyfriend, Debbie Harris, only to see him shot dead in his apartment by his jealous ex-boyfriend, Arnold Dimple. The dragon falls into deep depression as a result. Dimple returns to the Dragon Outbreak on several occasions as Fiend, who makes a deal with Satan to gain supernatural powers.

Chicago PD

And away from the Vicious Circle activities, the Dragon is lent to other police forces across the country to assist them in dealing with super-powerful criminals. While on loan to the NYPD, he first met the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, whom he accompanied several times in the next comic. Also during his time in New York, a large prison took place and a number of powerful and dangerous criminals were killed. This is the first time the Chicago PD has lost a star witness against Master; Hardware, intended to provide evidence against criminals, was shot dead.

Although Captain Darling's Freak Force program failed, the Dragon continues a lasting relationship with one of its former members: Rapture, a former prostitute with electric power, who will then have his son. Meanwhile, Lord Overlord's Cyberface command broke away from the Vicious Circle to form a competing organization. Cyberface was later arrested but, like Hardware before him, he was killed before he could testify. Eventually Cyberface is resurrected and then leads the Vicious Circle under the control of Horde, another recurring villain.

Later, the Dragon made his first attempt to capture the Overlord, who easily defeated him and left him impaled on the church tower. The dragon is believed to die but is regenerated from his later wounds. This is not the only time the Dragon disappears and is considered dead; it becomes a recurring theme and runs a joke in the series. During his healing, Dragon is attacked by someone under the strange mental control of the worm. Under the dominance of this creature, the Dragon goes berserk where many innocent people are injured or killed. He was eventually stopped by a vigilante mace, and the worms were traced to the Horde. The tantrum resulted in a major negative reaction to the Chicago Police Department, and the largest Dragon naysayer, R. Richard Richards, took this opportunity to attack the Dragon with a robotic weapon dubbed the "Dragon Massacre". Later, the dragon meets She-Dragon, a powerful young woman who imitates himself.

After an attack on the police station and the Cyberface murder (which was later resurrected), Dragon leads the SWAT team to finally bring down the Overlord. The battle was hard, and every member of the SWAT Team was killed except for the Dragon, who was skinned alive. Even in her weak condition, the Dragon finally unmasks Tuan as the mob boss Antonio Seghetti, who then falls to his death.

After helping Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for the second time, Dragon almost survived another attack by Fiend, which made him almost limp after his bones healed wrongly. To make matters worse, Chicago was in the midst of a brutal gang war that emerged as a result of Master's death. The Vicious Circle, once rigorously regulated by Overlord, has since been separated into several factions fighting for criminal supremacy. The dragon was discovered by a friendly taxi driver and Mighty Man, who used his superhuman powers to rearrange the Dragon bones. After recovering from this ordeal, the Dragon fights for another prison break, this time at a maximum security facility cleaved by the recently risen Cyberface. This battle marked the end of the gang war, and Cyberface received orders from the Vicious Circle.

This victory was followed by difficult times for the Dragon. After a number of crossovers with other Comic Image characters including WildStar and The Maxx, Dragon meets Spawn and is finally sent to Hell by Fiend. The Fiend can have a living body, and its power is driven by the capacity to hate those who have. His last victim was Debbie Harris's mother, who did not realize that the devil who possessed herself was the killer spirit of her daughter. While in Hell, a boxing fight takes place between God and Satan. When God finally defeats Satan, he warns his defeated opponent: "Do not make love with God." Just as the Dragon of amnesia begins to ask about its origin, God returns him to Earth.

After that, everything grew worse for the Dragon. He can not save fellow officer Phil Dirt with a blood transfusion. Meanwhile, the Rapture (pregnant with a child of the Dragon) suffered internal damage when the baby kicked - an unborn child after inheriting his father's strength - and the Rapture entered a premature labor. The dragon can not reach the hospital on time, and the baby appears to have died. However, in fact, the baby was taken by the Covenant of the Sword, a shadowy organization determined to take over the world.

After a crossover with Hellboy, the Dragon is caught in the Mars Attack (Image) and Mars/Savage Dragon Attack , where he is responsible for destroying Mars' bases on Mars using rays of Martian growth. This causes them to retreat and possibly become extinct. When he left, the Vicious Circle had taken over the city. Back home in Chicago that was destroyed, the Dragon was captured and crucified publicly by the Circle. The dragon survived and defeated most of the criminals, but the new boss of the Dragon, Captain Mendoza, suspended him for having been lost for so long. During his suspension period, the Dragon spent several months as a bounty hunter and helped rebuild the city after the invasion of Mars.

S.O.S. year

Behind the scenes during this period, Rob Liefeld departs from Comic Drawings. The Mars Attacks Image event and Shattered Image crossover are used as a way to remove the characters created by Liefeld from the collective "Image Universe", including Youngblood. On the pages of the Savage Dragon, Larsen has a dragon who is approached by the United States government to form a super-task force to replace Youngblood. After the negotiations, the team was dubbed the Strikeforce Special Operations, or S.O.S. This team includes many of the super-powerful supporters of this book, including Jennifer Murphy, the super strong and immune single mother who was first introduced at The Savage Dragon: Sex & amp; Violence mini-series. Despite being a founding member of the team, Naga spends less time as a member.

Then, on a dying parallel Earth, a homicidal despot named Darklord begins to swap part of the earth with parts of Dragon's. Dragon leads the team S.O.S. members, including Jennifer Murphy and her ex-girlfriend Rapture, into this world to stop Darklord. The rapture was killed by Darklord, and Dragon and Jennifer were separated from the rest of the team. The remaining members of S.O.S. managed to stop the transfer and flee back to their own Earth, the Dragon and Jennifer were forced to find their own paths from the dying planet. While they are running away, the Dragon tries to find the Rapture of the Earth, only to find Debbie Harris the world instead.

All three were lost in space for several months, and Dragon was once again allegedly killed, eventually landing at Godworld, where Debbie died but revived as an angel. Dragon and Jennifer are caught in a battle between Thor and Hercules, and then sent back to Earth by All-God; Debbie is not back with them. After this, Dragon fights with an armored dictator who resembles Dr. Doom before returning to Chicago on leave and attacking regular sexual relations with his former colleague Alex Wilde.

In giant sized editions of 50, many of the sub-plots of the series are completed, and in climatic battles among most of the series, the Dragon is killed by mystical Abner Cadaver; However, the witch is killed in the middle of the road by William Jonson, and the Dragon is bound to him.

William Jonson and the new Overlord

The series changed its title to Savage She-Dragon for five issues, displaying it as a main character during an attack by The God Squad to take on the super-odd variety which is a descendant of a god. This causes S.O.S. back to Godworld and deliberate destruction by S.O.S. members and former members of Deadly Duo Kid Avenger. During this time, William Jonson realizes he and the Dragon share a body, and soon the Dragon finds he has the ability to take over Jonson's body so they become super masked heroes. When he helped She-Dragon, Jonson's fiancée, Rita Medermade, was kidnapped by Jonson's brother, Ralph, and they both met an individual wearing the Overlord armor. While saving him, Jonson was shot, Ralph was killed by Overlord, and Dragon was given full ownership of his body.

Abner Cadaver is back - composed of parts of the dead God Squad character, Darklord, and Dragon arms - and is involved in battle with Fon ~ Ti, the mystical creature that once became the Horde. After Fon ~ Ti's victory, he separates the Dragon from Jonson and returns the Dragon to its normal body. After confessing their love, Jennifer and Dragon start dating. After fighting with the Impostor, disguised as Rapture, Dragon proposed to Jennifer, and their marriage followed in the next edition, where Jennifer appears to be killed by a new Overlord. Actually, he was replaced with the previous Impostor by the Covenant of the Sword. Although he was only semi-active before, Dragon officially resigned from S.O.S. and became the legal guardian of Jennifer's daughter, Angel. In the next edition, the Overlord subplot is tied after Dragon defeats his new team. Dragon kills Overlord, and he is declared a supporting character of Vic Nixon, who has been wearing armor to spy on Rita; armor then destroy it. After this, the Overlord armor is destroyed.

Single parent and Damian Darklord

Following the resolution of the new Overlord plot, this series spends most of its problems solving all the remaining subplots. This is the preparation for the last change in the 75th edition, with the Dragon as the sole parent who takes care of the Angel and ends up losing the battle for him because of his dangerous lifestyle. The Dragon is dated to a television producer named Marcy Howard, back in casual affair with Alex Wilde, and dated with Ann Stevens before he was murdered, while a number of super-powerful children and adults were kidnapped by the Covenant of the Sword.

After losing custody of the Angel, and the assassination Ann, Dragon and Mighty Man (now former members of Freak Force Dart) began searching for the lost SuperPatriot. This leads them to the Sword Treaty, which has the SuperPatriot, Jennifer and the Son of the Dragon. The Dragon and Mighty Man were arrested but eventually rescued in a big battle similar to those in the 50th edition where a number of characters were killed.

It was revealed that the Covenant was formed by Damian Darklord, a time traveler who was the enemy of a criminal named Super-Tough. This man became Darklord and started life as Damian, the son of Liberty, the daughter of SuperPatriot who was raped during the Mars Attack show. Damian also built and detonated "Bomb Nega" consisting of super-powerful individuals who stripped off every non-natural "freak" in the world. The Dragon then kills him.

The Savage World

With the 76 edition, the series turns into a post-apocalyptic/distopian story inspired by Jack Kirby. The dragon is caught up in the new reality he created by killing the baby Damian Darklord, which prevents him from returning to the past, and with the vast majority of the mutating and terrifying population in this world trying to kill him. Dragon finds his home into a crater and believes that Jennifer and Angel are dead. The Dragon meets with WildStar (Image Comics) and Madman and finds that during the time he has, without Mace to stop him, he goes on a longer rampage, killing Alex Wilde. The Dragon also finds that Cyberface is now the President of America and has the SuperPatriot under his control. Dragon sets a bunch of old enemies and allies to defeat Cyberface. After fulfilling his commitment to Rex Dexter - who helped him overthrow Cyberface - by rescuing his daughter, the Dragon restored the hero, and found his way back to Chicago and reunited with Jennifer and Angel, who were actually saved.

The Dragon then finds the old world has survived and also the World of the Buas. His partner of Darkworld, this Dragon, was defeated, but the old Dragon Earth was destroyed by a creature named Galactus devouring Universe, despite the best efforts of the Dragon and his son, Malcolm, remaining in the sky after its destruction. The dragon is able to save Alex Wilde from that world. After this, the Dragon marries Jennifer and lives with her, Angel, and Angel's new "pet", Mr. Glum, who secretly plans to kill the Dragon.

Coinciding with the 2004 US presidential election, Larsen created corrupt politician Ronald Winston Urass, who designed a successful writing campaign to elect the US dragon president. However, once his criminal intentions and his relationship with the Knight Knight were revealed, the Supreme Court rejected this vote. This causes Urass's revenge to attack the Dragon using his father's armor, Dread Knight, which is the old enemy of SuperPatriot.

Behind the scenes, Erik Larsen created Comic Image publishers, causing a nearly yearly publishing gap between the 121 and 122 issues of the series. The title was re-published on a regular basis in January 2006, with the first story involving a vengeful scientist from Iraq who sent an almost unstoppable robot to kill the President.

Mr. Plan Glum to rule the world is manifested using the power of God Gun (a weapon capable of giving three wishes to its users). Glum fired a gun and asserted control over his planet while the Dragon was unable to hospital, losing his rapid healing ability. Glum, at that moment, was running with the Dragon Stepmother's Angel after he had made her grow more than 100 feet, and she accidentally destroyed her home and paralyzed her mother. Both became partners, and Angel adopted a killer personality, mercilessly, while Glum set the Earth people to work with the impossible task of making the planet look like his face (as his old world did).

The dragon is revived with its healing ability recovered and able to oppose the control of Glum because the loop-hole in its desire means it can not control the extraterrestrials. The Dragon can not get close enough to Glum because the various robots and Glum villains are under his control. However, the intervention of a number of characters from the Wanted series of comics, who came to steal God Gun, allowed the Dragon to destroy weapons, negating the wishes of Glum.

During the story, the Vanguard spacecraft was destroyed, freeing the Universo, imprisoned on it. He started sucking energy from Earth once more. The Universo and her heretics were killed by Solar Man, the hero of Superman-as being the killer and hoping to get out of existence using God Gun, a wish that failed because of the destruction of weapons by the Dragon. She-Dragon also returns from Dimension X with Angel from the original dragon-origin world. They were chased by Darkworld Dragon and Battleaxe new villains.

Back to Basics

After Angel and Malcolm return to the new world , Savage Dragon is left to face new problems. With Jennifer now disappeared and supposedly dead, two superstrong boys, but unable to face back to normal after months spent in isolation (Angel now has learned deficits, and Malcolm is almost illiterate) and no income to care for his family, Savage Dragon back to the police.

Meanwhile, a new Overlord takes over the Vicious Circle, continues his assault on the city, and Savage, hospitalized after a fight, is ambushed and killed by a strange new man, with the power to steal his memories and enemies'. Due to the large number of life forces held by the Dragon, and its powerful immune system, the strange man absorbs all his physical memories and characteristics, which are basically a new iteration of the Dragon. The Dragon Fraud has remnants of his body packed in preservative by Rex, and continues his normal life.

Even this new life in life seems short-lived, as New Overlord, after trying to bargain with Savage Dragon for his loyalty, actually hit his head and body away: Dragon Fraud , brought the Vicious Circle lab for analysis , revived itself as a crazy, unstoppable, and defective powerhouse with contradictory memories, determined to cheer herself on the super-powerful Angels and Malcolms.

Still not knowing anything about the Action of the Fraud Dragon, Angel and Malcolm searched for a way to revive the body of the Savage Dragon, though faced by Rex with the candidate creating nothing more than a soulless creature, or a monstrosity of mind-disgust , because brain matter is lost during the attack. They set out to ask Nurse Stevens for the last dragon blood sample, hoping to use her regenerative abilities to speed up the recovery, and resurrection, the Savage Dragon's corpse. But the Vicious Circle defeated them, stealing blood samples to create a Dragon dragon troop.

As a last resort, after being confronted by the Dragon Fraud , which attacks Rex and froze in preservative, Rex and Malcolm agree to transfigure part of Malcolm's blood on the Dragon's body. The Dragon rose again, but lost all the memories of his previous life.

Dragon Wars

Concerned about the new, tougher stance of the Dragon, the New Master has a Black Dragon sent after the Dragon Savage. Showing the callous attitude to human life, the Dragon finally revealed that he had regained all his past memories as Kurr Emperor (see above), and after beating the Black Dragon he ate his brain, killing him for his insubordination.

He then began to seclude himself from Malcolm, plotting retaliation for the Vicious Circle, now using the Dragon's blood to empower his members. New master decides to have a truce with the police department as seen in # 159. He lends help from all of the Superfreaks in his order to stop Kurr. When the last attempt fails, Kurr spills his facade, proclaims his identity and retells his origins (see below), for the first time in the universe talking, to Malcolm and Angel. Fighting several enemies, including Vanguard, an unnamed Shapeshifter who takes on the appearance of She-Dragon, Glum, the Original Angel and his friends and other enemies from his past, Kurr cleans the Earth from human life, using specials venom.

After he fought and killed Malcolm, Dragon Fraud woke up, this time with the personality of Savage Dragon completely responsible, and avenged his offspring and world by killing Kurr-Dragon. Damian Overlord continues to restore the original look and body, giving the Savage Dragon a chance to greet its species, and leaving Earth cleaned up in their care.

Disturbed by the consequences of Kurr's actions, he begs Damian Overlord to force his power back into the past and kill Kurr before he releases the potion, thus creating another different time line in which his family is alive. Damian grant his wishes, mercilessly killing him right there because "Savage Dragon is a dangerous wildcard to the world". Though the red fish imply Damian transplanting Savage's personality in WildStar (Image Comics) 's body, in the "restored" timeline of Kurr's foreign child, along with a "mysterious man" taking the corpse of Virus ' (as he is called now < i> Dragon Fraud ), take it on the spacecraft, where Virus and Kurr are used to restore the Dragon Savage to life. Savage Dragon decides to keep his hidden awakening to the inhabitants of Earth, and to make amends with his species offer to help them find suitable planets.

After Dragon Wars Malcolm Dragon took the role of Savage Dragon, along with his sister Angel, who acted as City protector. A split in Superfreaks brought Overlord to work with the Police, and part of the Freaks still involved in crime, with Malcolm keeping them in control.
