History

The facility opened as Firebird International Raceway in 1983 and hosted the NHRA Arizona Nationals. It held one IMSA GT race, in 1987. Due to its warm climate, this is a popular winter testing spot for NHRA and IndyCar teams.

It currently hosts automotive enthusiasts, such as the National NHRA, Lucas Off-Road Racing Oil Series, Lucas Regional Off-Road Racing Oil Series, Drag Boat Drag Boat, Red Bull Global Bug Rally, Bug-o-Rama, Formula Drift, Friday Night Drags, Drift & amp; Drag Nights.

The 600 acre multipurpose facility is currently used by dragsters, monster trucks, off-road racing, and drag boats. Some of the biggest brands in motor sports, including Lucas Oil, Coca-Cola, CARQUEST, and Ford have sponsored the circuit.

The park includes four race tracks: 1 mile NHRA 1/4 mile braking; Road 1.6 miles; a 10-turn 1.25 mile road course; and a 1.1-mile ramp, incorporating 11 tight curves and 3/8 mile mileage. It also features an oval 2.4-mile IHBA-lake and APBA-sanctions.

On February 24, 1985, in one of the most horrific accidents ever seen on a lake, Drag Boat Racer's Sunny Moon was almost killed after jumping out of his drag boat as he packed his throttle of about 160 MPH, which was launched into the air after hitting the beach and exploded into fire after slamming into a line of high-voltage electrical lines. Month passed out after crashing water at 160 MPH, but amazingly, he only suffered minor injuries in the accident. The accident was filmed by camera man Terry Fox
