Stardust International Raceway is a car racing track in Spring Valley, Nevada, in today's Las Vegas Valley. It features flat, 3-mile (4.8 km), 13-turn road course, and quarter mile drag drag. Built in 1965 by Stardust Hotel and Casino to pull high rollers into the hotel. In 1966 began to host the end of the Can-Am championship season. In 1968 the USAC Car Championship series held a race at Stardust. The hotel was sold in 1969, and the new owners largely left the track. Larry Horten, the track manager, rented land and ran drag racing until 1970. Pardee Homes real estate developers bought land and built the Spring Valley community on it. After that, the replacement track, Las Vegas Speedrome, opened in 1972 across from Nellis Air Force Base, and later became the current Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
