Plot

Who woke Beerus, God of Destruction, from his long sleep and told him that Frieza was defeated by a Saiyan. Thirty-nine years earlier, the Oracle Fish (Yogen-gyo ) predicted that a great opponent would appear before Beerus, Super Dewa Saiyan. Beerus, with Whis, then tracks down Saiyan Goku's soldiers, who defeat Freeza. On the same Kai-planet, Goku continues to challenge Beerus. Despite using Super Saiyan 3, Goku was eventually overwhelmed and lost in two attacks. Disappointed at the next lack of challenge, Beerus set out to look for a stronger enemy on Earth.

The arrival of Beerus interrupted Bulma's birthday party. Vegeta, who already knew about Beerus, because of Kai's warning? -sama, throws his pride sideways to make Beerus in a good mood. Meanwhile, Pilaf, Mai, and Shu sneak into a party to steal Dragon Balls, but are not recognized because they have turned into children; before the movie event, they collect all the Dragon Ball themselves and look forward to youth, but Shenlong makes them a little too young. Finding three of them, Trunks mistakes Pilaf for a monkey and kneels on Goten that Mai is his girlfriend, leading to a trio being brought in front of party goers. When Mai accidentally drops the Dragon Ball he steals, he takes Trunks as a hostage, but no one cares. Drunken Gohan challenges Mai to shoot him; he fended off a bullet with one finger, but one of them hit Videl's leg and the other touched Beali's forehead. Dende heals Videl and discovers that she is pregnant with Gohan's child. Videl has hidden the facts to surprise Gohan later and they do not reveal it to others. When Beerus asked Mr. Buu for one or two puddings he had, Buu ate them all, angered the God of Destruction, who decided to destroy the Earth. Buu, Android 18, Tenshinhan, and Piccolo try to fight Beerus, but easily defeated. Gohan strengthens and attacks Beerus, only to be lowered by a heavy kick. Vegeta tried his hand to defeat Beerus, but he was also demoted. Goten and Trunks joined the Gotenks and tried to fight Beerus but quickly lost too.

Bulma became irritated at the battle that ruined his birthday party, and yelled at Beerus, before slapping him. When Beerus slapped him on the back, he sent Vegeta into anger, becoming stronger than Goku; However, he still lost. Goku shows up, after watching Vegeta's fight and calling Shenlong to ask what is the Super Saiyan God. Super Saiyan God once appeared on planet Vegeta to stop the wicked Saiyans, but failed because of the deadline for forma. The dragon also reveals that they need a pure six Saiyan power for one of them to achieve the Super Saiyan God form. Goku transforms into a Super Saiyan god, a form that is much stronger than Super Saiyan 3, thanks to his strength, Vegeta, Gohan, Trunks, Goten, and Pan (from inside his mother Videl), fulfilling the prophecy ever expressed by the Oracle Fish. Goku confronts Beerus again and they wage a fierce battle in space, just above planet Earth. This form gives Goku the power to withstand Beerus, but he returns to his regular Super Saiyan form due to the time limit. However, he learned a form of feeling like a god, allowing him to use some of the Super Saiyan Lord's power against Beerus. Both seem to be equally strong, but Beerus finally decides to use his strongest attack. Goku stops the energy ball, almost holding it, but after Chi-Chi and Goku's friends show up in Goku's mind, he is able to absorb the energy ball and transforms briefly into the Super Saiyan god once more. However, Goku is overwhelmed by exhaustion, and at Beerus's suggestion, finally admits defeat. Beerus acknowledges Goku's efforts and reveals that he is the second strongest person he has ever opposed, after Whis, who is also a martial arts teacher and even stronger than himself. Goku also learns from Beerus and Whis that there is actually another universe with other Destructive deities. Back to Earth, Beerus decided to save the planet and go with Whis after saying goodbye to Goku and his friends, who returned to Bulma's birthday party. It is revealed by Whis that Beerus uses only 70% of his power against Goku.

Critical reception

Richard Eisenbeis wrote for Kotaku calling the film "a great nostalgic journey from beginning to end." He noted that it was focused on mild moments, but that "comedic moments are not only funny but also true for the series, and the fight scenes are very good and everything is." He specifically praised animation as the best of the series, due to technological advances since the early 1990s, and stated that the spotlight of the film is how ultimately the villain is undoubtedly the winner over Goku in "the complete reversal of the standard DBZ Formula". Otaku USA ' Matt Schley agrees that this is a comedic heavy movie "more reminiscent of the original Dragon Ball than Z". He speculates that the enjoyment of movie lovers depends on what they expect; "If you want a decent Dragon Ball Z epic epic for the title of Battle of Gods, this movie may be disappointing, but if you're happy to see your favorite characters do some more animated hijinx after years -tears, this movie certainly gives. "

Leah B. Jackson of IGN gives English rank of 7.5 film out of 10, praising animated scenes and fights, especially the last battle. He was happy to see Funimation's voice actors returning, but criticized the film for lack of iconic techniques and had too many "fillers". Theron Martin of Anime News Network (ANN) praised the film for its humor, the use of starring and supporters, the introduction of Beerus and Whis and the overall nature and plot of light heartedness. But it also criticized the film for its inconsistent animation, the lackluster fight scenes and the use of CGI, stating, "Ultimately the Battle of Gods is entirely a movie for old fans, because it has too many jokes that they are not familiar with the vast plot. get it. This is not an extra star for a franchise but it is worthwhile and at least quite entertaining, as long as that does not go into it expecting a magnum opus action. "Kyle Mills Of DVD Talk highly recommends the film, praising the epithet and the perfect balance of humor elements from anime Dragon Ball first with the action element Dragon Ball Z . He finished with, "Dragon Ball Z: The Battle of Gods is one of those fun movies." For fans of the Dragon Ball franchise, you have to check it out. [...] [That] movie full of nostalgia, fun characters, when it's loud, and a nice action scene. This is a film that perfectly shows why Dragon Ball franchise has a lasting popularity. "
