Publishing history

The Miniatures Handbook was written by Jonathan Tweet, Mike Donais, Skaff Elias, and Rob Heinsoo, and published by the Wizards of the Coast in October 2003. Cover art by Stephen Tappin, and interior art by Trevor Hairsine, Des Hanley , Adrian Smith, Stephen Tappin, and Richard Wright.

Jonathan Tweet explains the original purpose behind the book: "The Miniatures Handbook and the D & amp; D Miniatures line is generally developed because we see that the miniature is a big part of the d & amp; r roleplaying experience. to support players who use miniatures in their games, as well as create miniatures that are easy to use for players who want to use miniatures but not.In addition, we build on the experience that the Wizards have with competitive games. The miniature D & D is designed to work in games role, but we've also created a head-to-head combat system to fight fast, tactical battles with them. The Miniature Handbook, like the miniature itself, supports both roleplaying and head-to-head wargaming. "

Reception

Shannon Appelcline notes that the book "gets a rather mixed review and some things like the rule of mass combat - which may be outdated, in part, all the way to an unpublished book of 'Order of the Military' - mocked for not working well with random miniature properties. However, the book may serve the cross marketing purpose of Dungeons & Dragons and Miniatures.
