Overview

Street Rod was released in 1989 and took place in 1963. Equipped with a garage and a small amount of cash ($ 750), you buy a used car from a classified ad in a newspaper and start the journey to ride through the ranks by winning the race against the other racers. Using the money you make through the races, you can modify your car and win enough races gives you the right to challenge The King for his position.

Gameplay

Players start in the garage, where cars and spare parts can be bought from newspapers. The new parts purchased must be installed by the player by entering the hood or going under the car and then removing a series of screws to remove engine parts and transmissions. Then, these parts must be reassembled so that the bolt is replaced, otherwise the car will be violated. To install the tires, the car must be jacked up. When the race, the car will run out of fuel, which must be obtained players from the gas station.

The player will continue from the garage to a local restaurant to find some competition for the race. The race takes place with dragstrip (drag racing option) or open country road. Bets on drag races can be set from "Just for fun!" (no bet) to $ 10 and $ 50. On street race bets can be set from $ 25 to $ 100 and "pink slip" (the winner receives the losing car). When the race begins, players must wait for the signal to be given to go or they lose the race.

If a player's car does not have an automatic transmission, they can "drop the transmission" during the race if they continue to press the gas pedal while moving the gear, or blow the engine if the tachometer disc is in too much red zone. In either case, players will lose the bets they make and will be transported back to the garage, where they must get new spare parts for their car.

If players crash their cars during the race, they can get a fixed car for a fee, or delete it and receive a memo score. However, if they are involved in a serious accident or the car has been repaired several times before, they can only accept the residual value of the car. During the road race, players are sometimes also chased by police. If players try to avoid the police and keep on speeding, they will be fined $ 75 if caught. If players slow down, they will be fined $ 20. Either an example of a canceled race results. If a player can not afford a fine, they will be sent to jail.

If a player does not own a car and their money amount is not enough to buy the cheapest car, the game ends.

The challenge is to defeat The King in the road race. If you win, you get the car and the king's boyfriend, and you become the new King.
