Concepts and creations

Shigeru Miyamoto states that Nintendo wants Mario to have a dinosaur friend since the first release of Super Mario Bros. ; However, that is not possible due to the limitations of NES. Inspiration for Yoshi can be traced further, to the green dragon Tamagon in the video game 1984 Devil World: both are green lizards that hatch from the egg and can eat enemies with their big mouths, and also emit the same sound when hatching. During the development of Super Mario Bros. 3, Miyamoto has a number of sketches around his desk, including a picture of Mario on horseback. Takashi Tezuka, a developer of the Mario series, speculated that Miyamoto's love of horseback as well as the country and western themes affected Yoshi's creations. The concept of Mario driving a dinosaur also came from a video game NES Excitebike, which featured people riding motorcycles. He again wants to show Yoshi on Super Mario Bros. , but still can not. Tezuka designed two power-ups (frog suit and racoon tail) to make up for this limitation.

After the more powerful Super NES was released, Miyamoto was finally able to apply Yoshi into the series, placing Yoshi into the Super Mario World video game. Yoshi proved to be popular on this debut, which led to the next game in the series, Super Mario World 2: Yoshi Island, to focus on the Yoshi species.

The Yoshi version seen in the movie Super Mario Bros. was created using a 3 foot (0.91 m) animatronic dinosaur. Yoshi was designed in the film by Dave Nelson. Animatronic has almost 60 meters of cable and hundreds of moving parts in it, and is controlled by nine dalang. The body is controlled by wires, while the head is radio controlled. Nelson described the overall process as "difficult." The creation of Yoshi is handled by an independent company of filmmakers.

Characteristics

Yoshi has many prominent abilities relative to other characters in the series Mario . Yoshi's holding tongue can extend long distances to retrieve distant objects or access unreached areas. After picking up the object, Yoshi may swallow the object to produce a typical spotted egg, which can then be cast; eggs are actually Yoshi's main "logo" in multi-player games. Another signature technique is "Flutter Jump" which extends the jump duration and slows down Yoshi's decline. Like Mario, Luigi, and several other characters, Yoshi is also a well-known user of "Pound Land", which involves the first drop after a jump to destroy a block or damage an opponent. Yoshi's big nose does not surprise the detection of hidden collectibles as well as flowers by olfactory and, as shown in the Super Smash Bros. series. , can be used as an offensive weapon.

Yoshi species appear in various colors. These are generally cosmetic differences that are used to differentiate individuals. However, in some games, Yoshi's color provides additional capabilities: in Super Yario World Red Yoshis can breathe fire, blue Yoshis have wings, and yellow Yoshis produce a destructive dust cloud upon landing. In other fruit-eating games change Yoshi's color and give the ability: orange, pink, and purple Yoshis in Super Mario Sunshine can spit fruit juice to defeat enemies and create platforms; while Yoshi can turn red, light blue, or yellow in the Super Mario Galaxy 2 after eating fruit and each reaching a super speed, the ability to expand like a balloon, or the ability to generate platform-light allows. Yoshis in various colors often appear in multiplayer games as an alternative choice that may or may not have special statistics.

In Super Mario World, Super Mario Sunshine, Super Mario Bros. Wii, Super Mario Galaxy 2 , and Super Mario World , Super Mario World i> Super Mario Bros. U new, bongos and other appropriate percussion instruments are added to background level music whenever a player climbs Yoshi. Also, on New Super Mario Bros. U , the choir is added to the level background music whenever a player holds Yoshi's baby. While being driven, Yoshi acts as an extra target point; taking damage will cause Mario or anyone who rides Yoshi to fly. This made Yoshi start to panic and ran indiscriminately until Yoshi was echoed or fell into a hole outside the screen.

Another distinct characteristic is the sound Yoshis made. Up to and including Mario Party 3 , Super Mario Bros. New Wii , Super Mario Bros U New , and Super Mario Maker, Yoshi's vocals consist of scratching voices for positive interactions and whistling voices for negative interactions. In most other games like Yoshi's Story , Super Smash Bros. , Mario Tennis , and every game since Super Smash Bros. Melee , Yoshi's vocals consist of a high-pitched baby scream along with understandable words including "Yoshi" and "Nintendo". Yoshi is voiced by Kazumi Totaka, composer of Yoshi's Story .
