Gregory Hammond "Greg" Olsen (born April 20, 1945) is an American entrepreneur, engineer, and scientist who, in October 2005, became a private third citizen for a self-funded trip to the International Space Station the company Space Adventures.
Olsen is co-founder and chairman of Sensors Unlimited Inc., a company that develops optoelectronic devices such as sensitive infrared (NIR) and short-infrared (SWIR) cameras. One of the main customers of Sensors Unlimited is NASA. Today, Olsen is President of GHO Ventures, LLC, in Princeton, New Jersey, where he manages his angel investment, South African wine, Montana ranch, and conducts many lectures to encourage children - especially minority children and women - to consider a career in science or engineering. He is also professor of physics at Rider University.

Early life and education
Olsen, born in Brooklyn, New York, is the son of IBEW Local 3 electrician. His mother is a school teacher. He grew up in Bay Ridge and graduated from Ridgefield Park High School, Ridgefield Park, New Jersey in 1962. Olsen originally wanted to become a baseball player but realized from a small local league how difficult the standard was. Olsen was inspired by his father to become an electrician, always having home education to fix things at home rather than calling a repairman.
After being abolished due to failure by teachers due to poor grades in high school, Olsen plans to join the US Army until he is advised to try college for several months. Through the IBEW Local 3 scholarship, Olsen tries college, maintains high marks, and passes magna cum laude with multiple degrees from Fairleigh Dickinson University. He then graduated with a PhD in materials science from the University of Virginia. She has two daughters (Kim and Krista) and has six grandchildren: Justin Dibsie, Carter Dibsie, Danielle Dibsie, Romina Lapadula, Athina Lapadula, and Oriana Lapadula.
Olsen recognizes small business training and believes that for companies that produce less than 100 million (smaller companies as he calls them) that success is more based on "intuition, instinct and hard work." He praised his success in his science training. "My two start-up companies are from the field I train, for example, my first company EPITAXX (optical detector and optical supplier for fiber-optic and cable telecommunication networks) depends on my knowledge of physics and materials science." Olsen likes to put his money into high-risk start-ups. Olsen founded EPITAXX, a manufacturer of fiber optic detectors in 1984 along with Vladimir Ban. It was sold in 1990 for $ 12 million. He then founded Sensors Unlimited in 1992 with Dr. Marshall J. Cohen. Sensors were sold to Finisar Corp for $ 600 million in 2000. Then repurchased by the management team in 2002 for $ 6 million, and sold again to Goodrich, Corp. in 2005 for $ 60 million.

Detail Spaceflight
After being flown to the International Space Station (ISS) with Soyuz TMA-7 (launched October 1, 2005, anchored 3 October) and landed with Soyuz TMA-6 (October 10), Olsen is a third self-funded space tourist to visit the ISS, following Dennis Tito (2001) and Mark Shuttleworth (2002) (all three space travelers through Space Adventures, Ltd.). Olsen has made several comments indicating that he is unhappy with the appointment of "space tourists". The following is from National Geographic coverage "Space Launching - Together for Ride (2007)": "Greg: The term space travel implies that you will write a check and you go for a joyride and believe that this does not happen" Narrator: Greg works hard to achieved so far, practiced for two years with the Russian Space Agency. "
Olsen had to train for a year and a half before getting ready to go into space. During routine x-ray, black spots are found in his lungs. He had to undergo a monthly medical examination to get a flying permit. It took 9 months for him to pass medical.
He conducted several experiments in remote sensing and astronomy while in outer space. Dr. Olsen is a licensed Amateur Radio radio operator that holds FCC callsign KC2ONX and speaks to students via radio ham from outer space through the ARISS project. In an informal presentation at New Jersey high school, Dr. Olsen estimates that the space travel price will reach US $ 20 million.
