The Fire Dragon Mystery is the thirty-eighth volume in the Drew Nancy Story series Nancy. It was written under the pseudonym of Carolyn Keene, and first published in 1961.

Plot summary
Nancy Drew was summoned to New York City by Aunt Eloise to solve the missing persons case. The granddaughter of her Chinese neighbor, Mr. Soong, has been kidnapped. The search was made, first by disguising Nancy's friend, George Fayne as missing Chi Che, and then leading at the workplace of Chi Che, a bookstore, where Nancy met his suspicious owner, Mr. Stromberg.
Nancy decides to visit the store again, but when she walks along the sidewalk, Nancy is knocked out by a falling vase that is about her head. While Nancy was unaware, Bess and George took on the mystery and a redheaded man was quickly arrested.
A series of instructions led the girls to Hong Kong, where Nancy's girlfriend, Ned Nickerson, joined the action. Nancy stupidly followed "Chi Che" on the plane, and she herself was kidnapped. Nancy cleverly used her lipstick to signal aid in the plane window. After rescuing her, she follows further directions to an international smuggling ring, and, utilizing George's disguised once again, forces the thief out of hiding and has the opportunity to find the missing girl.

Production
This is the last volume in the series to be issued with a dust coat. The next volume integrates artwork directly into the cover.
