Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 is a role-playing video game developed by Dimps and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment based on the Dragon Ball franchise. This is the sequel to Dragon Ball Xenoverse released on 5 February 2015. It was released in October 2016 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and on October 27 for Microsoft Windows. In Japan, the Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 was originally only available on PlayStation 4. The game was released for the Nintendo Switch in Japan on September 7, 2017 and then released worldwide on September 22, 2017.

Gameplay
This game is very similar to its predecessor in terms of gameplay, it is largely set in a series of 3D battle arenas that are mostly modeled after the famous location in the Dragon Ball universe, with the central hub being an expanded version. Toki-Toki City, called the City of Conton. As reported by Game creators, Conton City is seven times larger than Toki-Toki City. Players can freely cross the world of this new hub, and in some areas even able to fly around, but this feature will not be available from scratch, instead of being unlocked. Players will also be able to travel to other hubs such as Namekian Village and Frieza ships. Some skills have to be learned through the master, just like the previous games. However, some masters will be found exclusively in this extra hub. Xenoverse 2 is the fourth Dragon Ball video game to display character customizations. Players can choose from five races from the first game: Man, Saiyans, Majins, Namekia and Frieza races. The game also features special searches, minigames and transformations (the latter only available for Saiyans in the first game, via Super Saiyan form). Players also have a much larger role in the story, because some decisions must be made by them. Multi-player servers can now store up to 300 players at once. The game also has a training mode called Training School. Players can use different types of explosions (Power, Homing, Rush, Paralyze and Bomb), and the type of explosion depends on the player's race or Super Soul. Another interesting element in this game is that players will be able to transfer previous data from the predecessor Dragon Ball XV 2, Dragon Ball Xenoverse. This produces game details that change in a way so players will be able to see the character known as Toki Toki City's "Hero" in the center of the square. The player also has the option of not doing this, which results in the default character being "Hero".

Plot
Two and a half years after the events of the first game, the protagonist receives a special mission from Elder Kai, which involves correcting history after it has changed. On the way there, they meet Kai Great Time, the god who watches the time, and his bird, TokiToki. After meeting Elder Kai, they were given their first mission, namely to improve Goku's fight with Raditz after he was enhanced by dark magic. Meanwhile, Towa and Mira, the people who have caused history to change, have gathered allies, Turles, Lord Slug and a mysterious Saiyan mystery, which was later revealed by Goku's father, Bardock, from various parts of the timeline.
During Saiyans Saga Attack, Turles tries to intercept Goku to prevent him from helping Z Fighters against Nappa and Vegeta, only to be stopped by joint forces from Time Patroller and Goku. During the battle, Trunks and his partner, the protagonist of the first game Xenoverse , try to capture Turles, but he escapes before the Time Controller can stop him. The protagonist then returns to the Time Nest after defeating the Great Ape Nappa and the Great Vegeta, and corrects history. There, they were introduced to Trunks and his companions, and it was announced that Toki Toki was laying eggs, which gave birth to another universe. During Namek Saga, Tim Patrol helped Gohan and Krillin escape from Dodoria and Zarbon. After the battle, Lord Slug appears and fights with you. After the battle, the Time Controller returns to the Nest of Time, knowing only that Captain Ginyu has replaced the body with Vegeta, not Goku. The Time Patroller and Trunks tried to fix it but in doing so, Ginyu replaced the body with Trunks. After the accident, Ginyu finally switched bodies with Goku. (As part of the original timeline). After fighting Ginyu's possessed Goku, Ginyu returns to his body and tries to exchange his body with Time Patroller but Goku throws the Namekian frog into the beam, causing Ginyu to become a frog. The Time Patroller then had to help Nail fight Frieza for Gohan and Krillin to get the secret password. Frieza defeated the Nail and flew to stop Z Fighters. Turles and Slug then arrive, after collecting all the Dragon Ball each want to use it for their own purposes. Trunks and Time Patroller defeat Turles and Slug. The Time Patroller then had to help Gohan and the others defeat Frieza (who has turned into its final form). Frieza defeated Vegeta and the others when the Time Warriors fought until Goku arrived and defeated him with the Spirit Bomb. Frieza survives and critically injures Piccolo and eliminates Krillin, causing Goku to turn into a Super Saiyan. The Time Patroller and Goku against Frieza, and the planet is destroyed by Frieza. During the battle, Cooler arrives to assist Frieza due to distortion in time by Towa. The player defeats Cooler, and returns to Time Left to leave Goku to fight Frieza, thus restoring the timeline.
Meanwhile, Trunks and his partner fight Mira. Runaway Mira and Trunks colleagues chased him. Immediately after Patrol Time runs into Cell Saga to restore the timeline to its original historical groove. During the battle, Towa caused another distortion that caused Metal Cooler to arrive at Cell Games. With the help of Trunks, Time Patrol destroys the Metal Cooler. The Time Patroller then helps Gohan defeat Cell. Soon afterwards, Patrol Time went to fix the distortion in a time where Future Gohan was killed by Android. Android 16 is enabled and is defeated by Gohan and Time Patroller. Android 17 and 18 arrive and have Gohan in defensive, causing Trunks to intervene and help Gohan and Patrol Time fight. After that, Trunks tries to help Gohan beat Android once and for all, but is stopped by the Timer because of the High Time Lead which states that history will change. Because of this history, Trunks must rest from the time patrol. The Time Patroller then travels to the Majin Buu era to correct the distortions in which Majin Vegeta sacrifices himself to defeat Majin Buu. Broly arrives, consumed by Towa's dark energy and tries to kill Goku, Vegeta, and Buu, but is stopped by Time Patroller. Vegeta sacrificed himself to destroy Majin Buu, restoring the current flow of history. The Time Patroller then goes to the timeline where Goku and Vegeta defeat Kid Buu, knowing that the Hidden Icon is gathering energy from the fighters. The Time Patroller pursues him and teleports into an era where Beerus and Goku fight. The Time Patroller defeated the Sayian, breaking his mask and revealing himself as Bardock. Mira arrived and was involved in a battle with the Time Controller. Beerus interrupts the battle with the intention to destroy Mira, Goku, Timer, and Earth. The Surpreme Kai of Time tries to calm Beerus with his pudding, but a terrible taste pushes Beerus into anger, and he is subdued by Whis and Time Patroller. Soon afterwards, Patrol Time travels to Golden Frieza Saga, where Frieza has been resurrected and wants to get revenge on Goku. During the battle, Cooler appears again, consumed by dark energy and Frieza is consumed also in his golden form. Towa breaks into the Nest of Times and deceives Beerus and Whis to leave the battle, allowing Frieza to destroy the universe. Whis was able to rewind time and Time Patroller, along with Goku and Vegeta, kill Cooler and Frieza.
Later, Beerus and Whis train Superintendents of Time prepare it for the final battle with Towa and Mira. Trunks and Time Patroller go to an unknown timeline and fight with mind-controlled Bardock. Mira arrived and fought them both, and Bardock regained consciousness. She drags Mira into the slot and both of them should disappear. Towa then arrives and reveals that he has controlled Trunks partners. The Time Patroller and Trunks against both and retrieve the masks that the Trunks partners used. The Trunks couple then disappears from existence, leaving Trunks and the Watchdog of Time without remembering it. The scroll then takes on another distortion in time, causing Trunks to remember his partner and realizing that Towa is back in time to prevent Trunks from calling him. The Time Patroller corrects this distortion and the Trunks partners are revived. Towa arrives at Sarang Waktu, and steals TokiToki eggs. Mira returns (Bardock defeats Mira as Super Saiyan 3 but leaves it afterwards) and easily gets rid of Trunks and his partner. The Time Patroller faces Mira, who has become stronger, finally gaining a fighting spirit for his battle with Bardock. Towa realizes this and learns that Mira can destroy the entire history of the universe. He helps the Time Controler defeat Mira. When he suggests fixing Mira's core strength, he lights it up and absorbs it and his eggs, gaining tremendous strength. Goku arrives and turns into Super Saiyan Blue and helps the Timer finally destroy Mira. With the universe rescued, Dragon Balls are used to call a big party for the whole of Conton City. The game ends with Goku showing that Time Patroller and Time Patroller from the first game fight each other to see who is stronger.
Development
The game was initially mocked by Bandai Namco Entertainment on May 16, 2016, as the new "Dragon Ball project, announced on May 17, 2016. A Bandai spokesman Namco confirmed that the game will be released on PlayStation 4 in Japan, and for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows in North America and Europe. Bandai Namco announced on E3 2016 that the game will run at a frame rate of 60 frames per second on all three platforms, will have a hub city seven times larger than its predecessor, and will also feature a new transportation system.
An open and closed beta for Xenoverse 2 was announced by Bandai Namco. Both open and closed betas are only available on the PlayStation 4. The closed beta begins on October 8 and ends on October 10, and the open beta begins on October 14 and ends on October 17th.
Collector's edition of the game includes game floppy, CD soundtrack, collector box, exclusive steel case, guidebook Timing Patrol Guide (which includes exclusive manga based on game), and Super Saiyan Goku statue. It is available for Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

Downloadable content
A total of six downloadable content packages were released. Each package includes at least two characters, a new step, skill, parallel search, and other elements for the created character.
- DLC Package 1: Adds Frost and Cabba characters from the Dragon Ball Super .
- DLC Package 2: Adds Vados and Champa characters, "Universe 6 Saga" to story mode and stage "Nameless Planet", all from Dragon Ball Super.
- DLC Package 3: Adds Goku Black (SSJ RosÃÆ' Â ©) and Zamasu characters from Dragon Ball Super and Bojack from the Bojack Unbound movie .
- DLC Package 4: Add the Zamasu and Vegito Blue Unifying characters, "Future Saga Trunks" to story mode and stage "Future Earth", all from Dragon Ball Super.
- DLC Package 5: Adds Super Buu characters (Gohan is absorbed), and Dabura from Buaga saga, and Tapion and Android 13 from DBZ movies Wrath of the Dragon and < i> Super Android 13 .
- DLC Pack 6: Adds Ultra Instinct Goku, Jiren and Android 17 characters from Dragon Ball Super , new characters Fu, and new story modes.
Reception
Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 has sent 1.4 million copies worldwide. On November 27, 2016, the PS4 version has sold 87,105 copies in Japan. The Nintendo Switch version debuted at number three on the Japanese sales charts, with 24,045 copies sold and then selling 500,000 copies worldwide, by 2018.
Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 received a positive review. Critics praised the anime's visual style, sound, and fighting gameplay but criticized control, recurring properties and overall similarity with previous installments. Merging GameRankings and Metacritic review websites provide this game 72% based on 57 reviews and 72/100 based on 27 reviews.
IGN gave it a score of 7.5 out of 10, saying " Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 is an ambitious, if rough, experience with random elements and fights." Hardcore Gamer awarded him 3 out of 5, calling "a minimal improvement over his predecessor while sharing many of the same issues, but there's something really exciting about how it all comes together."
Heidi Kemps of GameSpot bestows game 7 out of 10, praising combat services and fans while criticizing combat over and over and non-combat missions as "generally poor". Kyle Hilliard of Game Game Informers also gave it 7 out of 10, praising Conton City's addition but criticizing the battle system as it is almost identical to the first Xenoverse game and the soundtrack as "consistently terrible".
Ashley Fonte from Games Mojo gave it 4.3 out of 5 stars stating that "Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 is an exciting anime game with a unique and ambitious concept that is familiar to Dragon Ball Z series fans and will give them a pleasant playing experience." Alastair Score Stevensons 3.5/5 on the Trusted Review says that "The battle is fun if you know how Dragon Ball works, but the beginners will struggle to get their bearings, because Xenoverse 2's cost system is, at best, hit-and-miss". "Smarter battles and great multiplayer options make Xenoverse 2 worth playing for fans of the series" is Benjamin Shillabeer-Hall on the PlayStation Universe with a score of 7/10.
