The Golden Girl and the Gem Watcher is a row of toys produced by Galoob in 1984-5.
The Galoob toy line focuses on eleven 6 "action figures with 5 articulation points, bending legs and rooted hair.The line consists of five female heroes, Golden Girls, Saphire, Rubee, Onyx and Jade (The Guardians of the Gemstones) - and four female criminals, Dragon Queen, Vultura, Moth Lady and Wild One (The Force of Evil) In addition there are two male action figures included in the lineup, Prince Kroma (in tune with the heroes) and Ogra (in harmony with the villains). including headland, comb, diecast shield with shiny gemstones embedded in it, a helmet and weapons.
A broad fashion line is produced along with a line of action figures. 3 waves are released, and each wave contains its own mode for each of the 9 female characters. Each wave has a specific theme: Evening Enchantment, dress line; Spirit Festival, glossy clothing line; and Forest Fantasy, a line of coarse clothing.
Additional play elements released include the castle playset for the heroine, The Palace of Gems. Olympia unicorn Golden Girl, and Dragon Queen's Dragon Steed Shadow are also produced. Both horses are available for purchase alone or in separate sets that include trains (w/horse carriages that match the color scheme of each horse). 4 Dream Tents are produced for a limited number of action figures. Collector case to save action image is also released.
Galoob also licenses play items separate from the action picture line including Fate Find Your Own book, activity book, storybook, sticker calendar, stamp set, jigsaw puzzles, and board games. In addition, a 3-D Colorforms playset is produced that includes all 11 characters. Ethnic Vultura and Onyx are exchanged on the Colorforms playset.
Non-playline items include Golden Girl Halloween costumes, Thermos brand lunchboxes, drinking cups and sleeping bags. Useable metallic brooch representing 5 female heroes (Golden Girl, Saphire, Rubee, Onyx and Jade) are also produced.

The Story
The Golden Girls, Saphire, Rubee, Onyx and Jade are The Guardians of precious gems called Gemstones. Gems make the Guardians strong and skilled so they can defend their beloved Argonia Kingdom from all enemies.
One of these enemies, Dragon Queen, attempted to conquer Argonia with the evil group of Vultura, Moth Lady and Wild One. The Dragon Queen will not stop until Argonia is his.
The Guardians of the Gemstones must remain in top-notch form so they will be ready to face the Dragon Queen challenge. One way they stay fit is through a day of competition that includes four athletic events. This is an important competition, but that is also friendly, In the end, one Guardian will emerge as the most skilled of them all. Who is that?

The Guardians of the Gemstones
A very small number of Dymondia figures were released in Europe. The figure appears to be painting Rubee's figure rather than including a unique print, which seems to indicate the number of Dymondia may be the prototype that Galoob used to sell Series 2 to retailers. The figure of Dymondia is in the new Series 2 blue box compared to the pink Series 1 box design. None of the other Series 2 Guardian of the Gemstones characters are known to have been produced.
- Dymondia - Corset, gloves, skirts and Dymondia shoes are white with dark pink accents in the form of fanning.
